The Year Every year I make an image of the year with whatever is around.

One year it was apples, another, on holiday with friends, it was slices

of melon. This year I made it out of autumn leaves. They look artificial

but they are the real thing -  freshly collected.

This was for last year.

Flowers from my garden. This is an old favourite of mine. I particularly like the way whoever made it hadn't measured it very well and the last word is a bit squashed.

These really are flowers from my garden.

I wish these were from my garden but they are from a lovely lady who sells wonderful bunches at the Uckfield Farmer's Market - Jenny Bacon from Fresh Cottage Garden flowers, Hammonds Green Cottage, Framfield. These are September and October's purchases.

A new departure for me was a commission to do an image of the Pudong Shanghai skyline. Here is work in progress and the finished article.

Christmas cards This year's Christmas card, Winter Castle, is loosely based on Lewes.  We tobogganed, just like that, on the Paddock, many years ago. I am also having it made into a giclee print.

Norfolk patterns During an autumn break in Norfolk found an empty medieval church covered with ancient murals. All the other colours had faded leaving just the red. Then outside mosses and lichens.

Easyart Leather Lane Event It was a really beautiful autumn day.The pictures don't do it justice but the stalls that Easyart had set up looked lovely - all white with veg boxes from a greengrocer, painted white to display the goods. It was a great venue. Leather Lane is vibrant street market right in the city with good foodie stalls and clothes - Easyart's London Offices overlook the market.

Work for the Shard

I was asked to produce some work for the shop at the Shard. These are the two images they chose. They are printed on small canvases - nice and easy to take home as souvenirs. I had a wonderful visit to the viewing platform and was almost overwhelmed by what I could see - it was almost too much to take in. It would be nearly impossible to try to make an image of the whole of London, so I narrowed it down to the river and bridges. The idea for the Shard at night came later, looking through my resource of scraps. I would still like to tackle the obvious view - The Tower of London, looking like a little toy fort with Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast in the foreground - perhaps another time.

Collage cake

Crazy cake for a friend's birthday. Think I will stick to paper collage in future. The real thing looked better than the photo.

Collage inspiration: Kurt Schwitters at The Tate Britain

I recently had a wonderful visit to the Kurt Schwitters exhibition at Tate Britain.

Kurt Schwitters  - really the master of collage.

He produced some true masterpieces but also with the passage of time, the materials he used have taken on a charm of their own - beautiful typography of ancient tickets and old fashioned sweet wrappers.

It is an inspiration and well worth a visit.
